FLOWERBED ALTERNATIVE, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Every Thursday we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm. Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and someday, hopefully anyway, recreate it...enjoy!

Simple outdoor decor that doesn't involve "much" work.  Objects as art/decoration and some flowers thrown in here and there.  We actually have a corner of the house where this could work.  We were also thinking about doing something like this around the barn and/or shed.  I think I might like a more formal "edge" to the gravel area, but still we like this idea for creating interest that doesn't require as much upkeep as an entire flowerbed, if that makes sense.

Be inspired!

  1. Just yesterday, I was looking at loops that attach to things to display a flowerpot. It certainly would be easy to water those flowers or even change the flowers in the pots. Just don't use red rocks! Could you use an edge that could be mowed over? that would cut down on weedeating. Plus, it would look more natural if it were old bricks or stone. I have hundred year old bricks with the name of the brick company. I am quite sure those are sold with names of brick companies in your area. Those could add a sense of history with other old/antique things. And, you would still have an edge.

  2. Oh dear. TheHub is going to be so miffed I saw this pic. It would be perfect for the front or back (depending on your perception of lake living) of the lake place! We are headed there early Friday. I smell a project coming on!

  3. What a great idea, you don't want to be overloaded with work every time you visit the farm or even when you are living there.
I noticed part of a fence or gate in the pic, if you want some of these 'weathered' bits and pieces you can start collecting them and leaving them at the farm somewhere to get the aged look happening before you move there.
I have an old door and an old window which now have mirrors in them, fantastic little surprises in the garden.

  4. It would be a great way to display some interesting "junk-tique" treasures that you find. The flowers would add pretty spots of color.

  5. Love the rustic look. Keep your eyes open for some Old farm / garden tools.
My first where 2 old wagon wheels and worked around them with other old rustic farm items along with an old water pump that was used when growing up on the farm.........many, many years ago along with my dads milk / cream cans.
Adding rustic items in flower beds looks rather cool.
A display by the house or your sheds or even a section in your yard someplace would be nice displayed with some nice size rocks / boulders.
