AND HERE WE GO YET AGAIN

Houston Winter Storm Warning, graphic courtesy of KHOU.com
This is the forecast for us (image is from last night's newscast so it's this morning).  It's been really bad further up North and now it's unexpectedly come this way.  Kind of crazy to think that Saturday and Sunday were hot and humid and I even got sunburned while dealing with the soil.

In the span of about 2 hours on Sunday afternoon, the temperature dropped some 50 degrees!  This is the sky Monday afternoon at the farm just before the sleet started (courtesy of 2nd Family).  We even had THUNDERSLEET!

So many people in our area have already planted gardens and flowers and other plants since we had warm Spring temps and now we are all dipping into the 20's and being covered with ice.  Kind of glad I don't have everything in the ground yet.  The weather people said that this was one of the only times in recent memory that we've had this many icy weather cold snaps in one Winter season.  All bridges and roads are being de-iced around town now.

Of course they also added that of the seven coldest Winters we've had in the past, six of them were followed by Texas being hit with Tropical Storms and/or Hurricanes the following Summer.  This is now another one of the coldest Winters we've had and is added to the list...so what happens this Summer?

Stay warm and safe wherever you are!

  1. The weather is crazy all over. Our last frost date is around May 24th,so no planting until then...then we all go nuts!

  4. I live in Fairfax, Virginia just outside of DC. We got seven inches of snow yesterday and last night the temperature was in the single digits! I think you are getting our leftovers...

  5. 1st Man,

Houston......You have a problem, lol.......just teasing. I don't wish this weather on anyone. Were still trying to get around on the ice and snow. Be careful, and stay warm!!! Also, if you've planted something put plastic over the plants to help protect them.

  6. We certainly are being tested for some reason.

A few warm days we tilled the garden but the snow came again before we could plant.

    Stay warm.

  7. On Sunday we had temps of 75 F and by the next day, the temp had dropped by 45 F degrees. It really physically hurt me. It looks like for the next ten days we will have nothing below freezing, so I am grateful. I thought we were getting another round of ice and snow like before. Dropping 50 degrees in two hours would have been horrendous! I am not even germinating seeds yet. I usually put them in the car, but it has just been too cold in the car.

    1. Sorry it hurt you, I know that it can be very tough on people. The temp drop was astonishing, I really didn't know it was possible to change that much that fast. It really was like a movie, ha.

Stay safe and warm! Spring is coming!!
