WEEKEND UPDATE

Well, the weekend ended on a down note.  Big Green Zen Machine decided to stop running!  Yep, got on it, all ready to do some mowing and 'click click click'.  Did all the standard checking, plugs, filters, fuses, etc, and of course tried jump starting the battery and nothing.

I'm guessing it's an alternator or wiring harness issue.  Phone call in the AM to the John Deere store.  It has a three year warranty so we should be good but now the grass will be even taller and meanwhile...

...the utility cart still sits idle on the porch.  I was planning on using it for the first time this weekend.  I had a load of bricks to move and other fun times planned.  Oh well.  By the time I finished trying to diagnose the problem, it was so hot there wasn't much left I could do outside.  So I just did some random things around the house, most I didn't get a picture of.

We put up some of these over the door hangers, they work great for extra storage.  And since they are the same color as the door, they sort of blend in.  Put one on each closet door and then one on the inside of each bathroom door.  They'll be great for towels and robes and whatever else we need them for.

  1. Boooo, hissss! I hate it when something won't run, especially something as new as your Big Green Zen!

Love the door hooks that are the same color as your doors. I have over the door hooks on some of mine, but I could only find chrome ones. I'd much rather have white, but they sure are handy. Dog leashes in the laundry room, purse hanger in the bedroom. Bathrooms have the peg hooks attached to the insides of the doors for towels and robes. They are very handy to have!

    1. Booo hisss is right! I thought the same thing, it's too new to have a breakdown like this. Of course, it does have to stay outside, under a shed and cover but still outside, until we get a barn. But we'll get it fixed. Sigh.

I almost bought chrome ones but then I saw these and I knew they were perfect. I like the same color as they kind of disappear. Towels and robes for sure, but no purses or leashes, ha. We do have this awesome backscratcher though.....

    1. Absolutely, it's crazy when you plan your whole day around something and it doesn't work. Of course, makes us appreciate it all I suppose.

  3. Isn't that always the way? You have these grand plans and then POW! Something throws a wrench in it all! At least your hooks look good ;-)

    1. Ha, the hooks do look good, I'm happy for that. Of course that only took a few moments out of my day. But hey, at least I was inside where it was cool. :-P

  4. Hi, I got a used John Deere riding mower which I just love. Got one of the little green dump carts too. Mine was used but only $200 and my husband did a couple of replacements and I was off and running; but one day when I tried to turn it on I too heard a click click and it wouldn't start. After checking everything out, my hubby thought it needed a new ignition switch. Bought a new one ($33.00) and yup it roared to life. Here is a great site to buy parts for after your warranty runs out. shop.weingartz.com

    1. Yay for you! Hmm, ignitiion switch. That's possible. Now of course, with warranty I don't have to worry but what a great website you linked to. Thanks, I'll save it to my favorites, never know when I might need something huh?

  5. It's always something. But, I'm sure you will get it figured out and since it is under warranty, much much better. Have a great week.

  6. Pooldad and I have been debating the pros and cons of a push vs. riding with our new home. The neighbors are waaaaay serious about lawn maintenance, as our we, but we haven't had a yard this big in 10 years. [Yes, I am freaking out a bit, why do you ask? ::giggle::]

I know a rider is more expensive, but c'mon. He's 57, and you know I'M not doing it, right? Plus who wants to spend an entire weekend mowing grass?

Then again, we have barely an acre and you have 10. So, my point is I feel your pain, especially on a NEW mower. Good to know they come with a warranty [the things you learn blogging!] I hope you get it fixed soon. And the cart is cute. I won't be sending my husband over here because not only will it sway him to get the riding lawn mower, I'll end up with a cart too.

No. wait. You'll see him tomorrow. [I win, with your help!] Thanks! ::GRIN::

    1. I can honestly say I HATED mowing with a push mower. In town we have a tiny yard so I hired someone to do it, ha. An acre...hmmm.....of course you wouldn't need one as big as the one we have, so a smaller end riding would probably be most practical. If you are going to stay there for a few years, imagine he's 57 now, ten years he'll be 67, probably definitely won't want to be doing it then ha.

Warranty is great with John Deere's, it's 3 years actually so that's great. And side, note, I don't have to mow all 10 acres, thank goodness or I'd have a BIG tractor, ha. But do mow about 2 or 3 acres total every weekend (or every other when it's hot and dry). So we opted for the bigger mower,

      Good luck!!

  7. Sounds like the problem I had on my old Snapper. The one of the solenoid poles had burned out. Perhaps you just have a loose cable connection to yours. Here's a link to my blog post about my temp repair until the fix. Snapper fix Hope you don't have to wait long for the Zen machine to get back into action.
